Budget Friendly Valentine’s Weekend Getaway

Horse and CarriageMany of us are planning exciting things to do to surprise our partners on Valentine’s Day: whether that’s a special dinner out, a romantic night in, or a surprise vacation. This year Valentine’s Day falls on a Tuesday, giving you the chance to surprise your partner with a weekend break either before or after the day itself. We’re not all made of cash, but a budget break can really put the spark back into a relationship.

Orlando, Florida

For the young at heart, Disneyworld is surely the best place to spend a weekend. During February flights to Orlando are less costly than in the summer months, but you won’t need to bring a jacket. Temperatures are warm, usually in the 70’s. As an extra bonus, the parks are less busy because children are back at school.

Charleston, South Carolina

Embrace the romance of the American South with a weekend visit to Charleston. With grand mansions, horse-drawn carriages, and beautiful waterfront parks Charleston is the perfect destination for old-fashioned romantics. Ryan Philippe certainly thought so, as he proposed to his ex-wife Reese Witherspoon in local bed and breakfast The Planter’s Inn.

New Orleans, Louisiana

Everyone knows that Paris is the most romantic city in the world, and France the most romantic country. But it costs a lot of money to fly long haul to Europe, so head to Louisiana instead. It’s hard to imagine anywhere more romantic than the French Quarter under the dim lamps, with sultry jazz providing the background music. Well, perhaps a sunset boat trip along the Mississippi would take the cake.

Napa Valley, California

The Napa Valley is just a short drive from San Francisco, but the beautiful rolling hills and acres of vineyard create the illusion that you are much further away from civilisation. This is the ideal destination for wine lovers, as the majority of Californian wine is produced here. There are plenty of other activities too: from spas and music events, to getting reacquainted with each other in your hotel room.

New York, New York

Remember New York is very cold during the winter months, so wrap up warm and be sure to snuggle up tight. When it comes to romance, New York has it covered. Take a ride on a hansom cab through Central Park, kiss on top of the Empire State Building, and discover great all American street food. Just be sure to pack your thermals.
