Rise and Shine! Quick Healthy Breakfast Ideas

quick healthy breakfast ideaNutrition is always a complicated topic, but I can safely say that eating regular, balanced meals is vital for your health. It took me so long to realize how important breakfast was. I'd roll my eyes at my mother as she'd try to convince me to have breakfast every morning. "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day". It's true. And beginning with a quick healthy breakfast helps set you up for the rest of the day and also reduces your chances of over eating come 3pm, assisting you to maintain a regular eating routine.

It can be hard, though, to get motivated to make a nice balanced breakfast especially when you're rushing to get everyone organised and out the door, so here are some easy, quick healthy breakfast recipes to get you started and give you the energy you need to get through your day. These are my personal favourites. One of the benefits of seeking out a nutritionist for treatment for my eating disorder is coming across so many awesome food ideas. It'd be selfish to keep them all to myself! Enjoy!

What constitutes a quick healthy breakfast?

When putting your breakfast together, it's important to try to incorporate one serving of carbohydrate, calcium, fruit and a protein. This may seem like a lot, but it's important to help kick start your metabolism, which helps you to burn calories rather than store them! It will help you avoid binge eating, by better regulating your hunger and your concentration will be improved!

Fruit salad with honey yoghurt, flaxseed, whole grain toast and a cup of tea.

Chop up some banana, apple, orange, pineapple & strawberries. Top with greek style honey (mix through one table spoon of honey) and sprinkle with a teaspoon of ground flaxseeds. Add in a piece of whole grain toast with almond butter or honey and you've got a perfect, balanced and healthy breakfast full of protein, potassium, calcium and (healthy) carbohydrates.

Porridge

It's winter here in Australia, so porridge (cooked rolled oats) is a regular in my house at the moment. Top this with some fresh or frozen berries bananas and low fat milk. I tend to sprinkle through some chia seeds for a little extra omega 3 and protein.

On-The-Go Smoothie

When you're really pushed for time and need something really quick and easy, belnd some frozen berries, kiwi, banana, 1 cup of natural yoghurt, 1 teaspoon of ground flaxseeds or 1-2 teaspoons of chia gel with a cup of ice. Have alongside a museli bar or a protein bar for a perfect, quick healthy breakfast

Eggs

Eggs are always a good quick healthy breakfast. They're full of protein and they're filling. 2 eggs is one protein serve. I like to poach two eggs, served on whole grain toast with a piece of fruit and a milo or yoghurt.

Have some fun and make up your own breakfast combinations. Breakfast doesn't have to be a chore, make it something you look forward to every morning! Your body deserves it! Remember, by combining a healthy, balanced diet with regular exercise you are doing your mind and body a massive favour.

What are your favourite quick healthy breakfast idea? Do you find that if you skip breakfast, you're reaching for the high sugar, high carb, low energy foods before your next meal?
