Methods to Rebuild Your Self-Esteem

There are many ways that life can knock our sense of self-esteem. Perhaps it started with bereavement, or the break-up of a relationship, friends not talking to you anymore, losing out on that job promotion, or even getting ill, to name a few. Everyone is so different and what matters to you is what has the power to knock your confidence. And once you are down, it can become a vicious cycle. Negativity building on negativity, dragging you ever deeper. But it does not have to be this way. You have it in your control to rebuild yourself and create a brighter future.

Focus on Your Achievements

Instead of always looking at what you are bad at, or how you could be better, focus on something you are good at, or what you have achieved. Everyone has achieved something, and that includes you. What about beating the competition to get that job, or having a friendship that has lasted x amount of years. Even completing a collection or managing to pay the bills on time. There will be more things than you realize that you are will be doing that you could mark up as an achievement. So write them down to help you begin focusing on the good over the bad.

Start a Hobby

Most people have something they would like to do, from learning a new language to skiing. Think about something you could turn into a hobby. There are many benefits of partaking in a hobby. They force you to focus on something external, giving the mind a break from its normal functioning. They allow you to clear your mind. When you are in the act of creating, such as by painting, or writing, for example, you enter a sort of quasi-meditative state, known as the flow-state. Being in this state increases awareness and, ultimately, happiness. Hobbies also have the ability to help you meet new people as, by nature, most creative pursuits have the community at heart.

What are your Life Values

Life changes people. You get older, your priorities change. Maybe you interact with people for a totally different reason to why you did before. Maybe it is time you take stock of your life values. What is important to you, and what would make you happy? Ensure that you are living according to these beliefs, as a mismatch here can cause a deep-seated lack of self-esteem.

Take Care of Yourself

Many people who suffer from low self-esteem tend to lack care for themselves, and they believe they have no worth. This is very detrimental to both your mental and physical health and is a road to illness and disease. To start rebuilding your self-esteem, start with looking in the mirror. Do you need a new wardrobe? Do you need to see a savannah orthopedic nurse for that pain that stops you from exercising? What bout your diet too? Start by swapping unhealthy choices to healthy one a bit at a time. If you vow to swap one thing a week in no time, you will be feeling a lot better.
