Healthy Mom: Why It’s Important To Take Time To Take Care Of Your Needs

As a mother, you are responsible for the well-being of your children, and that’s a big job. But you are also allowed to make time for yourself. A lot of mothers forget that, and over the years, they become bored, unhealthy and depressed because they haven’t taken the time for themselves. Check out these six great ways to make sure you are giving yourself the attention you need as a mother.

Socialize regularly

Humans are social beings, and as such, long periods without socialization can make us sad and depressed. Don’t let that happen to you, and make sure that you are getting together with friends without the kids at least once per week. Even if you are more of an introvert and don’t like talking to people in large groups, it’s important to get and do something different. Something as simple as dropping by for a birthday party or going shopping with a few close friends will make a big differences.

Take a trip to the spa

Nothing says “I care about myself” more than a trip to the spa. You don’t have to spend an entire weekend there to get a little well-deserved pamper time. Get a manicure and pedicure, or get a new hair color or style. Whatever you choose to do, just be sure that it’s something relaxing where you can escape the stresses of everyday life.

Why It's Important To Take Time To Take Care Of Your NeedsTrying to get kids to school and run to a doctor appointment at the same time can be taxing on your schedule and your sanity. It can be even more stressful if you take the kids with you to your health appointments. Find a doctor and dentist that are open late or on weekends to give you time to take care of your health needs, suggest the professionals at Midtown Dental Centre. By scheduling late appointments, you can have more time during the day to be a mom and get other things done.

Have a hobby

You probably have hobbies, but you might not take the time to actually practice them and indulge yourself. Try planting a flower garden, or you can plant a vegetable patch and have fresh fruits and vegetables during the warmer months. You might also consider learning a language, craft or take a cooking class.

Get that exercise in

Most people think that exercise only helps you stay trim and fit. There are actually many benefits to exercise. Firstly, regular cardiovascular exercise will help to reduce the risk of heart disease and other illnesses. Exercise has also been known to boost serotonin, a brain chemical that makes you happy. If it’s difficult to wake up early to exercise in the mornings, consider working out after dinner. You can also do little things throughout the day to stay active if you don’t have time for a dedicated workout hour.

Just say “no”

Sometimes, you just have to say “no” to certain requests. Maybe your child’s class wants chaperones for a field trip, or you’re asked to bake something for an event. When you can’t swing it, don’t feel bad about saying “no.”

Remember, there will always be time to do the laundry, clean the bathroom and make extra yummy baked goods. You could fill your entire day with activities like these. To avoid getting bogged down so much that you cannot function properly as both a mother and who you are as a woman, follow the advice found here.
