Zen Meditation

I have been looking into ways to make my life a bit calmer. I tend to be a bit, oh what do they say, moody. So I thought I would look into this whole zen thing. I have also know that zen is calming and can bring peace and serenity into your life. What exactly is zen then? Well Zen is about more that just words, it has a great way of life.Zen

History

The word Zen is Japanese and is known as a part of Buddhism.  Many find this funny since they believe that Buddhism came from an India culture.  Buddhism is a religion that is based on the teachings of the Buddha and those that lived around 500 years before Christ was known. In order to live in a way of Zen many of the Buddhists would emphasize the value of meditation and would mean deep meditation.  This is something that many people would believe in to make them stronger and have a better way of living.  It is a way of self-development for many people because Zen is so important to them.Zen has become very important to the life of Japan.   Sometimes it is so well known that many people in the West will think that it is something that came from Japanese ideas.  They have taken the word from the Chinese who have borrowed it from the Indian language.  It is now called Zen and it is an English word that many people use all the time.

Now that I get the history of zen whats next? There is just so many ways that you can use Zen. Many people are using it to calm their lives and to feel good about what they do.  Zen is taking control of so many people today and giving them the feeling of health and tradition. They are going to be better able to be safe and secure in their life and they will want to learn as much about this new form of meditation as possible. It is a great way to find out more about who you are and what life is going to have in store for you as well.

First you need to give yourself just five or ten minutes in a quite space. Ha good luck with that. Bbody position is very important. You will want to make sure you are comfy so it doesn’t distract your concentration. You do not need to keep your space completely silent. Often people feel the need to have their meditation space silent, but you need to accept the noises from pets, family members, and neighbors. You’ll need to be comfortable, and you can always block out the sounds that you dislike.

Second the art of zen takes time and practice. I have yet to even begin to master it. Once you get the hang of it, you can use it to change your mood or even regulate your energy.  You will want to make sure you get enough sleep and are eating wellbecause this can effect the way zen effects you. Also, make sure to keep the negativity away as much as you can.

Something that a lot of people don’t realize is that you can change your feelings when you work with Zen. You’ll need to consider that when you use your mind, you’ll be able to change anything. When you want to change your mood, all you have to do is work hard and finds discipline in yourself. The key is to find the discipline. Living a healthy life means being in balance and “one” with yourself. I hope to find that through zen training and meditation. It might help me unwind at night and not be so grumpy stressed.

Do you think this is something you can do? Need help?

  1. I have been meditating for quite some time and can’t emphasize enough, the benefits I receive. Thanks for the history on Zen. I, like many people, had the history confused.

I think the hardest thing when starting a meditation practice is to think of it as practice. Not to get disappointed when the meditation doesn’t seem to go like we’d want it to.

Allowing is a good word to remember.

  2. Meditation is something I’ve been struggling to do. I’ve been trying, and when I’m able to, the feeling of being one with my higher self, even just for a brief moment, is priceless. I can’t even describe how it is. Calm, yet intense, goose bumps all over me, feels like I’m floating and unbounded. It’s the most serene feeling.

But then I would get pulled into the present again and my mind would switch from total blankness to the chaotic world I have, and my happy place is instantly gone.

Yes, it totally takes patience, discipline and commitment. Everyone should make this part of their everyday routine. If I have my way, I would uproot my entire family and live with the Buddhist monks on the mountains and learn their ways! lol!

  3. Even though I’m not a Buddhist I have incorporated aspects of zen living into my life constantly and teach others to do so. I even tell my boys… is there a less stressful way to say that same truth? Is there a more positive way of putting things?
I think modern life throws hundreds if not thousands of stress factors on us every day. We need to learn to guard our soul against such outward pulls and pushes. Physical and emotional health are very big priorities in our family.
    Great post!
