How to Create the Perfect Morning Routine

Mornings are not easy for everyone, but a good routine is not dependent on waking up early. Whether you like to get up at the crack of dawn or sleep in until 11 am, you should still set up a consistent routine that promotes health and wellbeing.

#1 Pick a time to wake up and stick to it

This will help you get up easier, and ensure you have a restful night’s sleep. This is because you have an internal clock, also known as the circadian rhythm. This can be out of sorts if you are inconsistent with your sleep, which impacts the quality of sleep you get each night, and how you feel during the day.
#2 Consider how much time you would like in the morning
Do you prefer to wake up and go? Or do you prefer a couple of hours to work out, shower and eat before you go anywhere? Start by planning backwards from your first commitment of the day, and figure out how much time you will need to fit everything that you want to accomplish. You may need to adapt your wakeup time to accommodate, but planning will ensure you give yourself enough time, and don’t start the day stressed or anxious.
#3 Get out of bed straight away
If you constantly hit the snooze button, then something needs to change. The snooze button is bad because you won’t get any of the quality rest your body needs, and instead, you will feel more tired. You should also avoid staying in bed and scrolling on your phone when you first wake up.
You should get out of bed as soon as your alarm goes off, and start your morning routine. This will be difficult at first, but you will quickly build resilience to challenges and stress, and it will help your ability to cope. By engaging with the day and your tasks as soon as you wake up, you will have a better day.
If you find it hard not to snooze or stay in bed, it might be time to revisit your routines. Are you getting enough sleep? Or have you planned too many tasks to complete in the morning and you feel overwhelmed? Your routine can be flexible and adjusted where needed.

When you get out of bed, you should choose a positive activity that you can complete each morning. You could try self-affirmations, where you speak positive phrases about yourself out loud or write them in a journal. Alternatively, you could try journaling, meditating, or listening to your favorite playlist or podcast.
#5 Drink water
When you sleep, your body is still working to recover from the day. When you wake up, you will not have consumed any food or water for 7 or more hours so you will be groggy and dehydrated. You must drink water as soon as you wake up, to support your brain and bodily functions. Water is essential to keep you hydrated, help you absorb nutrients, and get rid of waste. It will also help you feel instantly refreshed.
#6 Exercise
You should endeavor to move your body in some shape or form. This can be in the form of a high-intensity workout or a low-intensity stretch. This can help give you a boost of energy, support your health and wellbeing, improve your mental health, and help regulate your circadian rhythm.
#7 Choose a good breakfast
You should choose a good, nutritious breakfast to support your energy levels and wellbeing. A good breakfast will also make you feel happy. If you are eating food that you enjoy, you are going to feel good and give yourself a positive start to the day.
