How To Choose More Comfortable Swimwear
You shouldn’t have to put up with digging and chafing just to look good at the beach or pool. Comfort is important when choosing any type of clothing – and there are lots of ways to make swimwear more comfortable without sacrificing aesthetics. Here are just a few tips on how to choose more comfortable swimwear.
Opt for adjustable straps
Finding the right fit isn’t always easy. Adjustable straps are the solution to this as they allow you to tighten or loosen the straps to fit your body type. Many swimsuits and bikini tops have adjustable shoulder straps. You can also buy bikini bottoms with adjustable straps too.
Choose buttery soft fabrics
Swimwear can be made out of a variety of fabrics. Some are softer than others and are less likely to cause chafing. If you’re buying swimwear in a physical store you can usually feel the fabric to determine how soft it is, however if you’re buying online you may have to rely more on certain descriptors. Fabrics described as ‘buttery soft’ tend to be very soft on the skin. You can shop for buttery soft bikinis and buttery soft swimsuits online.
Support your bust
If you’ve got a larger bust, it could be essential to choose swimwear that offers enough support. Adjustable straps can help with this, but there are other features you may want to look into. For example, racerback swimwear is known to provide plenty of support, while v-neck strapless swimsuits can be more prone to slipping. Some swimwear comes with underwires or removable cups that can also help with comfort and support.
Buy tops and bottoms separately
Bikinis are often bought as a set. However, you can buy bikini tops and bottoms separately in many cases. This allows you to experiment with sizes so that you’ve got the right fit for both your upper and lower body. Some swimwear brands come with more size options than others. Bra-sized bikini tops can be a particularly great option for the straps and cups to sit perfectly.
Make sure you feel confident
Comfort can be mental as well as physical. It’s important to wear swimwear that you feel confident wearing. This can often involve finding swimwear that flatters your figure – accentuating your best parts, while drawing attention away from the parts you like the least. For example, a lot of us are conscious about our tummy. High waisted bikini bottoms and swimsuits with ruching can conceal your belly. Meanwhile, you can also use ruffles, colours and stripes to highlight or distract from certain body parts. Trying on different styles of swimsuits is the best way to work out what you feel most confident in. Consider going into a physical store with lots of swimsuit options and try on a few different outfits to see what styles work. Just make sure to keep your underwear on – this is not only more hygienic (you don’t know who else has been trying on that swimsuit!), but it also gives you a good idea of how tight or loose a swimsuit is.
