Vegan Diet: Could It Be Right For You?
Whenever you hear the word vegan diet, the image that comes to mind would be that of a hippie. Sometimes, an image associated with a person on vegan diet is a skinny lady with a complexion that is a bit orangey. But, these stereotypes are passé. Whatever the case, a vegetarian can come from all walks of life and you could be sitting next to one right now, without noticing it. Perhaps the biggest thing that a lot of people don’t know is the fact that going vegetarian can make you happy. If you find that unbelievable then read on, you might find some interest to go vegan once you’re done reading.
Less Stress
A new study published shows that those people who are on a vegetarian diet may feel less stressed and happier compared to those who are not conscious about what they eat on a daily basis. The reason boils down to the presence of fatty acids in the diet. Arachidonic acid (AA) which is found particularly in grain-fed meat was found to cause mood-altering brain activity. Diets with high fish content naturally have high levels of omega-3 fatty acids, like eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). EPA and DHA combat the ill-effects of AA on mental health. Thus, high levels of omega-3 fatty acids are linked to healthier brains. In a study, it was found out that vegetarians were less likely to feel stressed out and had better moods than those people who ate fish and meat.
Feel Healthier
Vegan diet will make you healthier. Meats have lots of cholesterol which can clog the arteries and cause a number of cardiovascular diseases. Eating too much meat can indirectly cause strokes. High levels of bad cholesterol from meats can also cause hypertension. If you eat more plant-based fiber you are giving your body an opportunity to get cleansed. Fiber is like a broom that sweeps away toxins from your body. Thus, giving you more reasons to smile and to be happy.
Lose Weight
Perhaps the most popular reason why people get into a vegetarian diet is to become skinny. Losing weight is good as long as you maintain a healthy weight. Going below the ideal weight is bad since it is a form of malnutrition. A diet that is based on fruits and vegetables has a lot of good carbohydrates, good fats, fiber and good cholesterol. A diet with lots of vegetable means that you get full longer which means that you will tend to eat less. If you eat less, you will not consume a lot of calories which can help you lose weight. Since there are very few calories to go around, the body will try to source its energy away from calories towards the stored fat which will make you skinnier.
Healthier Skin
Since vegan diets have lots of anti-oxidants your body becomes more capable of fighting against the free radicals that destroy the elasticity of the skin. A less elastic skin means that more fine lines and wrinkles will appear on the skin. This will give an impression that a person is aging. Free radicals are created by oxidative stress. Anti-oxidants are able to reverse the ill-effects of free radicals that often destroy the elastin of the skin which is responsible for making it youthful.
Vegan Diet Can Help Your Local Farmer
You will be happy to note that when you are going vegan you are helping farmers that are exclusively growing fruits and vegetables. Farmers of organic vegetables and fruits are being beaten to the punch by large farms that are able to increase their yield by using potentially harmful chemicals such as pesticides and insecticides together with inorganic fertilizer. When you go vegan, it is important to eat only organics. Knowing that by going vegan you are also helping those farmers out there is reason enough for you to be happy.
A vegan diet will yield a lot of benefits for the body. Remember to consult your doctor if you are healthy enough to go on a vegan diet. There are certain things that you need to sacrifice when you are going vegan. But once you get that out of the way you will reap the benefits of going vegan for the rest of your life.

Interesting post, I am pretty certain my husband would go crazy if I turned our home into a vegan one, but I love the idea of buying local veggies to help the local farmers!
I never really thought of those ideas but I can see it. While we are not vegan we do have to watch our meats becuase a lot of processed meats add gluten to their foods. We buy a lot of fresh veggies and I hope that one day I can get a garden of my own going!
I love eating Vegan. We are not completely Vegan, but so many friends and family think we are. I think we just have a very plant based diet, which works for us. We do add in meat occasionally, but its all waste organic and that means less, because of money. Great tips and I enjoyed this, thanks!
This is a great topic. I’ve thought about it several times. In my home it’s difficult because I’m married to a butcher, but I really do love my veggies.
