Inevitably, hormones will kick in for your son and whether it’s during gym or in the lunchroom; a new found temper will come along with it. A father needs to instill a moral compass that balances restraint and toughness all the same. There’s no reason to preach violence, but rather an ability to stand up for oneself with words is a crucial part of living a successful life.

The Art of a Perfect Shave

While it may seem like a simple idea; mastering the powerful art of shaving is a necessity for every young man. There’s an undeniable charm and power in looking sharp by the cut of your own blade, so use this as an opportunity to get your son one of the slickest and best straight razors on the market. What better way to usher your child towards adulthood and class than by bestowing him something both personal and unique?

Fostering a Hobby

While by no means a ‘just for father and son’ thing, a father would do well to find a similar, and perhaps ‘manly’ interest to share with their child. What’s important too is that the hobby be tinged towards more masculine behaviors that subject the young man to male-dominated culture. Doing this will prepare him for certain types of impending fraternizing, and male-dominated things he’ll encounter later in life.

Handyman Jobs

Pick one or two things a weekend and start showing your son the ropes around the house. This can be as simple as lighting a match to working on the car – the point is to teach him some handy skills that will pay dividends in his future. Bonus points for getting in some more great bonding time, too.
