Spring Cleaning: Ideas to Help Organize
I always find spring cleaning to be a welcome activity that helps me organize my home better. Storage solutions play an important role in getting rid of all the seasonal clutter, gathered during the winter season. Spring cleaning is also a great way to get rid of the stress, associated with having too many belongings and not wanting to get rid of them.
Storage Bay
The simple solution to this problem is putting some of the items you do not use regularly into a self storage facilities, like the Kennards Storage in Auckland. You only have to pay a nominal monthly fee to use such a facility and you can retrieve your belongings when necessary.
Clothing
As you spring clean your home, the best place to start with is your bedroom. Prepare your heavy winter clothing and blankets for storage by laundering them and folding them carefully. I find it appropriate to store such belongings in a closet with some mothballs. It is also wise to store them in bags that have vacuum suction because this will allow you to save closet space and keep insects and moisture off. If you do not have such bags, you can just fold your winter blankets and clothes properly in order to maximize storage space. Apart from closets, you can store these belongings in your attic or garage.
Winterize the Home
Another thing that you need to do during spring cleaning is to prepare your house for warmer weather. Clean the air conditioner vents and windows of your home. Spring season is also the time for melting snow, thunderstorms and rain showers. For this reason, you need to clean up the outside of your home. Give special attention to areas outside your house where leaves usually gather causing pockets of stagnant water. This usually happens in the gutter.
You should also check whether water pipes have any leaks that may have taken place during the winter season. You can do this by turning off all the faucets in your home and checking if the water meter keeps moving. During spring cleaning, you also need to get rid of the items that you do not need any more including appliances, clothes, books, magazines and any other thing that you have not used for a period of a year or more.
Give to Charity
There are many ways to get rid of such items. One of them is donating them to charitable organizations such as Goodwill and The Salvation Army. Items donated to such organizations are usually tax deductible. Along the same line, you can also donate items you do not need to family members or friends who may need them.
Spring Cleaning Can Make Money
Another option is to hold a yard sale. You could get people who are interested in purchasing second hand goods from your neighborhood or city. You just have to check with your local authorities to know the requirements you need to meet before holding a yard sale. You can also get rid of the items you do not need by setting up a table at your local flea market. After getting rid of unnecessary items, you will have adequate space to store your belongings. It is important to organize your belongings so that you will be able to easily retrieve any item you need. For instance, you can store your items in labeled shelves, boxes, plastic bins and crates. You can make the most of closet space by organizing your clothes by color and season.
