How I Potty Trained My Kid in 5 Days
Potty training my baby is a milestone that I have never imagined achieving because in the first place I am a first time parent. There is a feeling of tense and excitement inside me before I get started with my daughter. I also read lots of books about potty training guidelines. I found out that it could be accomplished within 5 days. I doubted it at first but the idea of accomplishing it is thrilling me as a mother.
Timing
There is no right time for training. You only need to watch out for the signs your child are displaying. Usually, parents tend to start the training late but I chose mine earlier so that my daughter could independently do it next time without supervision. I was the happiest mother in the world after 5 days because my daughter was able to use the tool. Now, she can use it anytime she wants; the process goes naturally.
Watch for Signs They are Ready for Potty Training
The signs that I observed from my daughter which I also read from different potty training books are very simple. The first thing I noticed with my daughter is the desire to remove the diaper whenever it is wet. She gets uncomfortable after she peed in her diaper so I started pointing her to the toilet. The next day, I bought a potty tool for her and demonstrated that it is where she should pee. If you wanted your child to know the tool’s purpose, you should explain it to him or her. Without you knowing it, your child is also observing you while you’re going to the toilet.
Here are some steps on how to do it within 5 days:
On the first day, start removing the diaper and put your kid into the potty. If your child is not yet comfortable without a diaper, do not force him or her. Instead, use alternative— undies. In order to make things easier for you, observe your child’s schedule of peeing. It is best to put them in a potty during the scheduled pee time. Once your child goes, give him or her praises and hugs. I usually say “very good” to my daughter followed by a kiss. If she won’t do it then you should be patient and try again on the next schedule. This is a trial and error process so just keep on going on.
On the second day, do the same thing as you did yesterday. By repeating the activity, the child will develop a habit. In my daughter’s case, she voluntarily goes to the potty because she knows that it’s already her schedule. But if your child is not yet accustomed, keep on trying and you will get there.
On the third day, do the same thing as you did previously. Some kids may be hard to train but if they see that you are very determined, they will start to synchronize with the process. Day 3 is also a crucial part for most moms because they usually gave up. Always remember that it’s only your third day, keep on trying.
Fourth day is the time wherein most kids already understand how to use the potty. Some may understand it earlier depending on the motivation of their parents. Potty training girls could be very rewarding afterwards if they already know what to do.
The last day is always the assessment time. Always assess the steps you’ve been making. I was successful because after 5 days, I never ever made my daughter wear a diaper again. If the child did not show any interest in the potty tool then you should wait for the next months. Remember those signs that I mentioned above, that could help a lot. They will just give you signs whenever they are ready.
