Happy Healthy Monday!
Well another week has passed and so much work left to be done. This week marks an emotional week for me and a momentous one. Some may not know but 1 year ago this Thursday, my birthday, I had an accident in my exercise class and torn my ACL and meniscus. This was the day that went from bad to worse in the upcoming weeks.
A week an a half after my accident I found that I was having trouble breathing. Thought maybe I had some cold but yet felt okay. I decided I better go see my doctor to find out what was going on since this was unlike me. Moments after getting there I was hauled off into an ambulance and on my way to the hospital. They suspected a blood clot had traveled to my lung. I thought this was insane I mean I drove there I could certainly drive to the ER right, nope.
So they call my husband to meet us there and in the mean time I am freaking out. I had just turned 36 and I had this blood clot. How could this be? Now I know what damage a blood clot can do, my best friend died at that the age of 27 for the exact same thing, so I knew this was serious business. My husband had called my Mom and she had my SIL bring her down, she doesn’t drive. They ran all these tests while I was in the ER and come to find out I had MASSIVE blood clots in BOTH lungs. After the fact I found out that the doctor told my mom and husband that usually when someone is in this bad of condition they usually don’t leave the hospital. Needless to say, they don’t know stubborn ole me very well.
Anyway, all its well know except my ACL and meniscus are still torn and probably always will be unless they really bother me. I know if I can get some weight off that will help tremendously. The thought of me not possibly be here to even right this or to have even seen my Son’s 2nd birthday really puts live into prospective. I think I am still in denial about it all, so my doctor says (hence my happy pills). So this week on my birthday I will NOT be exercising to better my health, instead I will be wrapping myself in bubble wrap and play it safe!
- Last week I did manage to lose 4.6 lbs, how? Not a clue but I will take it. So here are my goals this week:
- Log every bit of food
Drink water (czar is challenging me to 80oz)
Move to some extent. I have the Wii Fit and the EAS Active
All I can say is that I appreciate each one of you for supporting me and to push me along. I am grateful for my life, even though at times it sucks, because I would rather have it suck than not be at all.
So I am to mention Chiquita Bananas in the blog. I want to share with you one of my favorite protein shakes I used to make with bananas.
- 1 Cup Milk
- 1 Scoop of protein powder (regular no flavor)
- ½ banana
- 2 TBS of peanut butter
Blend together for a yummy protein shake!
I think I will start making these again. (just need coupons now -hint hint) Have a super healthy week everyone.

What a touching and inspiring story. here I am whining in my blog about getting moving to maintain a healthy lifestyle. I have been fortunate enough to never have such a scary experience and yet I find ways to avoid taking care of myself.
You have a strong will and I know you will succeed in all you attempt!

I’m so happy you’re stubborn! I want you to fight! You have the EA Sports Active, use it! There’s a bunch of fun stuff on there & you can make up routines for however long you want. 80 oz of water isn’t much…I know you can do it, show me I’m right (I love being right!)
*hugs*

U have no idea how happy I am u are still with us. I had no idea all this happened. Congratulations on the weight loss. My weight loss was weird like that too. I wouldn’t lose for two weeks then week three I’d drop down a bunch. Everyone releases weight differently. 🙂
WOW – What a story! I don’t blame your for wrapping yourself in bubble wrap for the day. lol – Your lose is fantastic. What are you doing? I can’t seem to lose that much weight in one week to save my life. I’m just going to keep at it. See you next week.

Oh Karla! I’m glad you’re still around too! I’m proud of you for your great attitude and for letting Kim boss you around. 😉 Have you found a good system for logging your food? I really love SparkPeople, but it is time consuming. Maybe a notebook?
Keep up the good work!! I believe in you!!

Wow, what a year this past one has been for you! I’m so happy you’re here with us! Does the food diary work for you? I think I need to start doing one, but I don’t like how time consuming it seems to be. Good job with your weight loss!

I am glad you are here. We are blessed to know you as one of our Sistas and I sure those in your IRL are glad that you are a stubborn ol’ mule. I have had torn ACL/meniscus combos twice in my life (soccer then mountaineering accident)… you know you can do good by them with fitness maintenance. Take care of yourself hon. And celebrate this milestone.

Wow Karla! What a week last year! So glad you are still with us too! I know how scary a Pulmonary Embolism (or several!) can be…after a hernia surgery my husband had last March, he also developed a blood clot that traveled to his lungs. He was in ICU for several days, and then on blood thinners for over 6 months! But all is well now. SO scary though!
Sounds like you are doing great…4.6 pounds in one week?! Sweet!
Good goals for this week! My downfall is consistently logging my food…but ‘The Czar’ has gotten me pretty regular about drinking healthy amounts of water each day.
