Disney Vacation: Keeping Safe at the Happiest Place on Earth

disney vacation familyA Disney vacation is every child’s dream. But while your kids are ready to meet Mickey and dance with Prince Charming, you worry about them getting hurt or lost. Disney works hard to keep their parks safe, but there are some things you can do to keep everyone safe while experiencing the magic of Disney.

Identity Bracelets

Purchase an identification bracelet for everyone in your group. Teach your child to wear his or her ID bracelet at all times, even while swimming in the pool. Each bracelet should include the child’s name, family cell phone numbers and allergies or medical conditions. Purchase waterproof identification bracelets online, but be sure to place your order well in advance of your trip.

Meet-Up Spots

Have a meet-up spot to check-in during your Disney vacation day. Choose centrally-located attractions like Cinderella’s Castle, the Tree of Life or Spaceship Earth. Set times to meet based on meal times so everyone is eating and staying well hydrated. Set all cell phones to both ring and vibrate so calls won’t be missed. Send a reminder text to your kids at least one-half hour prior to your meet-up time.

Finding Helpers

Show your children who they can turn to if they are hurt, in trouble, or get separated from you. Point out Disney cast members in the park, in shops, or at rides as potential helpers. Make sure your children understand it is okay to ask for help from one of these people and to show their identification bracelet right away. Tell them to stay out in the open when asking for help, and that it is never okay to talk to or go with strangers, even while on your Disney vacation, unless they are a Disney Cast member who is trying to assist. Locate emergency medical stations so you know where to take your children if they become injured.

Disney Vacation Attraction Safety

Ride rides designed for your children. Height requirements for each attraction are clearly posted at ride entrances, and a Disney cast member is also there with a measuring stick to make sure your children are only riding rides that are appropriate for their size. Once on the ride, make sure your children stay seated at all times and keep hands and arms in. Keep little fingers away from seat belt buckles or locking devices that can pinch. Listen carefully for special instructions from the ride attendant, and take special care to help little ones when getting into and out of ride cars.

Things to Remember

Call your resort’s front desk if your child becomes ill during your stay. Shuttle buses transport you directly from your hotel lobby to a convenient-care facility that will get your child in and out and back to the parks in a timely way. Consider enjoying the parks in the early morning or late afternoon or evening hours to avoid the heat of the day. Make sure each family member has a refillable water bottle so that dehydration does not become a problem.

With a little preplanning, your Disney vacation can be safe and fun for everyone.
