6 Fun At-Home Spa Activities for the Whole Family
As a mom, there’s no doubt that you have about 70 million concerns to deal with in a given day. If three of these concerns include (a) spending more quality time with your kids, (b) looking your very best, and (c) saving some money, then I’m happy to say this guide will allow you to have three less concerns. Take a whack at these family activities for a night of fun, fabulousness, and frugality.
Cucumbers
While most say it is a myth, cucumbers are chock full of antioxidants that help with skin irritation and swelling. A couple of sliced, chilled cucumbers resting on your eyes will cool your racing mind and relax any puffiness. And kids are bound to get a kick out of looking like people do in the movies! Lie on towels together in the living room, and try out a gentle face mask on the kids, if they want.
Massage Circle
Many kids do not respond to massage, but for those that do it can be a very important practice. It creates a bond between parent and child, and helps reduce violent or aggressive tendencies later in life. You can also easily have fun together with a massage circle: every family member sits in a “train” that goes around in a circle, and each person rubs the shoulders of the person in front of them. You’ll have to be gentle with little child shoulders, and don’t expect a great rub from a five-year-old. But either way, it’s a fun bonding experience for the whole family.
Sauna
This is one activity you might want to leave the little kids out of, depending on how hot you want it to get. Turn the shower on as hot as you’d like, and let the bathroom fill up with steam. Spray your favorite scented oil on warm washcloths, and place it over your face. You and the older kids can sit in the homemade sauna for about 15 minutes, sweating out your impurities and relaxing your muscles. You can always keep the heat down and the steam minimal, allowing the whole family to join.
Exfoliation
Give yourselves a homemade facial to leave everyone looking and feeling brand new! You can make a homemade sugar scrub to use on the face and body, or use a louffa for more tender skin. You can even purchase a microdermabrasion kit for home, which is great for your acne scar removal (and for your teen’s). Avoid microdermabrasion for the little kids, though, as their skin is still soft and perfect!
Deep Hair Conditioning
There are some great hair products on the market for deep moisture, and household ingredients like coconut milk can also do wonders for your hair. You’ll need to leave it in for 15-30 minutes, so run a hot bath for your kids. They can pretend that it’s a hot tub, and you can prepare them ice-cold lemonades to drink for the complete spa experience!
Manicures
The boys might want to call it a night early, but chances are they just might be interested in this last activity, too! Manicures and pedicures are a great way to bond and explore creativity together. Attempt whatever design your child might want, and let them do yours as well. Your local drug store also sells fake nails that look pretty good, as well. No matter how they look, it’s a great chance to spend time together and have some great conversation with your children.
